This profile is fairly accurate to scale, with the vertical scale 10 times the horizontal. Therefore gradients are exaggerated ten times.
The profile was drawn from the ride map with the assistance of OziExplorer software (developed in Queensland), using CGIAR-CSI height data from NASA on a 3 second (78m) grid. Because the data is more accurate than the map, and because it ignores things like cuttings, embankments and bridges, it tends to produce more bumps than actually exist in the road itself. Little peaks are likely to have cuttings; gullies probably have embankments or bridges. As a consequence, the ride will probably not be quite as rough as it looks! However we felt it preferable to show the data "as it is" rather than fudge it to make it look better!
We have not included the profile for the section from Empire Bay back to Gosford since, apart from a small rise immediately after Empire Bay, the ride is essentially as flat as a board, following the waterfront most of the way.
